The historical magnificant monuments speak for themselves but the ancient pharaohs would turn over in their graves (if they were in them...they can be seen in the museum in Cairo and are worth seeing if you are already in Egypt) if they saw how the local beggers and merchants disrespected the area. Trash, barkers, camel rides, beggers, etc. adorn the... more

Having visited the Pyramids, Valley of The Kings, the Temples of Luxor and other ancient sites in Egypt, it is impossible not to be completely overawed with the sheer monumental scale on which they built 5 thousand years ago, but also trying to imagine the incredible dedication and devotion required in order to achieve these utterly inspirational structures. Unfortunately, the... more

On our first visit to Egypt we felt that visiting the Pyramids was a must do. After flying from Sharm to Cairo we were bussed to Giza and initially toan awe inspiring sight. However from there on it was downhill all the way. I would never in my wildest dreams imagined that one of the seven wonders of the world... more

Wow, what can one say about something that "takes your breath away"!! It's just too amazing to be standing in the midst of these beyond belief structures. I know it's a "very long way to go" to see these sites, but honestly...pictures just don't do them justice. You just need to "be there". And besides, there are many cruise lines... more

I was amazed when I visited this in July of 2009. Although very hot (but fine in the shade) it was really easy to walk around the site. I didn't think we were going to be allowed to be so close as the site attracts thousands of people everyday. My partner and I agreed that we are definitely coming back... more

Absolutely stunning and incredible. How they ever got built is incomprehensible. To stand at the bottom of the pyramid and look up to the top is an indescribable feeling of witnessing something special. Going inside the pyramid you wonder how they came up with the idea and at the bottom where the sarcophagus stood you can imagine the scene. more

When we visited Cairo / Giza, a trip to the Pyramids was, of course, included in our itinery. However, I decided to go earlier and was glad that I did. I got a taxi from our hotel to the site and was there before it opened (at 8 a.m., I think) The atmosphere was amazing. There was no-one else around... more

We visited this area in the month of July. It was extremely hot but the Spinx and the Pyramids were outstanding. We paid 1 Cypriot pound to go down steps and into the bottom of one of the pyramids-extremely cramped, hot and not for the clostrophobic. The only drawback to the visit was the vendors. They were pushy and rude-some... more

Memphis was the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom. Not much survives of the splendid buildings and temples today. The site is marshy in places because it is believed that the Nile flowed closer to this city in ancient times and changed its course, making the move to a new capital necessary. Palm groves and villages have been built... more

We went to the Memphis as part of our guided tour with Rasha. The museum has quite a few large statues of Ramses. An alabaster Sphinx (2nd largest in Egypt) of an unknown pharaoh. The highlight being the enormous statue of Ramses the Great. The detail on this masterpiece is amazing. more
