I was a little disappointed in the Coptic Cairo part. Sure, it was a walled off area, but there was much less to it than I was expecting and in some ways, it didn’t feel all that old to me, which is strange because it obviously was. more

I just returned from Cairo as part of a tour to Egypt and yes the place is filthy and smoggy but alongside of that it is so interesting! The old buildings, pyramids, museums, traffic, people all make for interesting conversation when you return to your hotel! The food wasn't the greatest, no uncooked or peeled vegetables or fruit but we... more

One grows up reading about the Egyptian civilization and its wonders, however a trip to Cairo could be termed disappointing compared to that. The city is old (and you can't change that) however its dirty and unkempt and the people are not friendly. They make it so obvious that they are there to fleece you. The Pyramids a lovely sight... more

cairo is the place to be. we stayed in concorde el salam hotel and its the best hotel in cairo. save for the heavy traffic, the city has many sites ,u can visit the pyramids, the citadel, museum where you get to see the royal mummies. I enjoyed my stay for two weeks. The shopping malls are just great and... more

Don't go! Men using the streets as toilets and wiping their backsides on their outer garments. Constant noise. Filthy buildings. More physically deformed children and adults in one day visit than I have seen in a lifetime. Relics and artifacts in museum don't make up for these aspects of human life which vastly need improving even if at the cost... more

being in the old city in cairo is like being part of world before globalisation went global. Authentic culture that has changed very little over the centuries. Well worth a trip for sheeshah (hookah pipe) and a sweet mint tea and drink in the atmosphere. You even have to give the market hustlers their due for adding to the buzz! more

Definitely is "culture shock" when touring the area, as it is so different from "the states" and Europe. Be sure to observe their customs, especially in regards to how you dress. There are so many things to see in Cairo, so I suggest a good guide book to decide which museums & sites will interest you the most. more

Cairo is the perfect destination for Spring/Autumn. It is a wonderful escape into a complex and multifaceted history spanning many centuries and different cultures. The mummified remains in the Museum are absolutely amazing. Top Tips: 1. Use a reputable tour guide and take a tour. Using only a guidebook you risk missing out a lot of details and anecdotes, too.... more

I was there with friends and I would advise to go in a smal group, great to shop and bargain, great things to see, but there has to be done a job of awareness and education of the population 'cause the city is too dirty and there is trash everywhere the tops of the houses there is old and abandoned... more

My experience is probably not the norm for this tour. I booked a morning tour of Old Cairo/Coptic Cairo which included the fortress/mosque complex, Coptic Churchs, and the Synagogue. The tour was cancelled on Saturday and I rebooked for Sunday. A word of caution about Sunday tours, the churches are still in use and we were locked out for services.... more
