Brilliant! Amazing to see the first solid stone building. Well worth the visit. A local guide is invaluable.

um, i liked the stones and the wooden scaffolding. i liked the long pavement route with its bend and portal on way to Unas's pyramid. i looked at that stone pavement and thought (like all the other stones there) that was laid down by a slabber 7000 years ago, and it is still here, then i laughed until i cried.

I paid for a guide (Mohamed Abdel Salam) to take me here and his understanding and explanation about the importance of this place in the history of the pyramids. We went to see the step Pyramid because it is the oldest Pyramid, but even so l couldnt help being dissapoinnted as it was being held up with scaffolding. Its understandable because its very old,but to charge 60LE to see it when it was only 60LE to see The Great Pyramids plus the Sphinx was a lot to pay.

I mean, you have to use your imagination quite a bit, but it is a stunning bit of history, with impressive entranceway but much less impressive actual pyramid (small and currently covered in scaffolding to restore it). Not a bad drive if you are already staying in Giza, and worth it though not to replace any of the major sites.
