Within yards of the River Nile, and a substantial town grown up around it, Luxor Temple should have that closed in effect, sardined into a corner, and overlooked by luxury hotels. Happily it is anything but. This vast site, apart from the very adjacent Mosque of Abu el- Haggag is not overshadowed nor overlooked. The local authorities have taken great... More

best early or late afternoon to gain from sunlight on this temple completed by the egotistical Ramses II and honoring his relationship to the god Amon. Important parts on a large scale remain of the hall that still has scenes from Tutankhamon and southern rooms near the sacred innermost shrine given by the wealthy king Amonhotep III --- later changes... Definitely worth visiting, especially with the guide or if you read about it in advance. The layers and variety of rulers, cultures and religions that left their mark on this temple makes it a very unique historical evidence of Luxor and Egypt.

This is nice temple but Karnak is slightly better. Luxor Temple is still worth visiting but you get the usual hassel and locals trying to take your picture.

Unfortuantely we had just seen Karnak temple before going here, so was slightly dissappointed. A great sight and looks fantastic at night

Luxor temple is great at sunset because you avoid the major crowds and heat of the day. - Water inside the temple is expensive (10 LE for a small bottle) so i recommend taking your own in.
