Near Luxoe town centre there are an array of side streets that contain markets - explore and see whats on offer. The market near the Eclaire chocolate and cake shop is modest by comparision to some of the others, but worth a wander down.

The shops have the usual range of stuff from spices to stuffed camels, and you get what you pay for. Aim for half the original starting price, and you'll be some way towards a sensible price. Friendly, non-threatening and safe. But, once you get into a serious haggle, it's hard to stop without buying. Buyer beware.
I LOVE shopping here but as others have said, you need to keep your wits about you. I have visited many times but I recently managed to find a new shop that I had walked past before without noticing it. It is a shop selling silver jewellery, just on the right as you enter the souk. On my last day in Luxor, I just want to wander around the bazaar and was surprised that I found the souq of Luxor has more of that authentic feel to it than the very touristic Khan El Khalili in Cairo.
The bazaar part just at the end of Shalaby Lane with all those souvenirs are similar to Khan ElKhalili...

Ok so brace yourself as this will be a ride. #1 tip is practice the cold shoulder: engage no-one and walk straight past them, ignoring them totally. This will work a charm and will be your number 1 weapon to avoid being bamboozled. #2 tip is get advice from someone knowledgeable or someone you trust about what to buy before...

This Tourist Bazarr is worth a visit, no matter what you are told, it is safe and not everyone is out to hassle you or fleece you. Go with an open mind, but like everywhere keep your wits about you. It's also good to have local currency handy but to be aware of what the exchange rate is so you...

This is the easiest shop to buy water from. The prices are more than fair for water, soft drinks, crisps etc. The staff are fun and welcoming. The command of their englsh is excellent, but alo speak other languages. If they don't stock what you want, they can get it for you. Fully recommended.
The souk in Luxor is nowadays looking almost modern, clean and new. At least if you compare it to the way it was only a few years ago. So while all of Luxor is going through a major change, the souk has been changed as well. The elaborate entrance is marked by something looking almost like a gate leading to...

While having some free time from our tour in Luxor, my wife and I decided to take a carriage to the local souq. We requested the carriage driver take us to the souq, instead he transpoprted us to the ' Egyptian Market" which he regarded as the souq (three storey building). This market had many items which one can purchase,...
