Well-watered by the Mara River, enjoying abundant vegetation, wildlife and rainfall, its ecology would appear, at first sight, to be relatively resilient. It also appears to have withstood the erosive effects of huge numbers of visiting tourists extraordinarily well. There are signs, however, that the delicate balance between tourist numbers and wildlife populations cannot be properly maintained for much longer as evidenced by the reduction in the protective vegetation cover and the emergence of a series of dust bowls. Meanwhile, the Reserve is host to 95 species of mammals, amphibians and other reptiles and 485 species of birds. During the dry season (July to October) it also hosts a major concentration of migratory herbivores including about 250,000 zebra and 1.3 million wildebeest. Amongst the list of easy-to-view species are: gazelle, elephant, topi, buffalo, lion (Kenya's largest population), black rhino, hippo, hyena, giraffe, leopard and mongoose. « less

We visited the Masai Mara as the last part of an 8 day safari arranged for us by JT Safaris. We stayed at Ashnil Mara on the banks of the River Mara for 3 nights and it was excellent. We had used Julius of JT Safaris before when we visited Tsavo East & West 2 years ago and knew that... More

The geography of the Triangle ensures that game is grouped in an area small enough to be easily traversed by experienced drivers, and at higher concentrations than other parks such as the Serengeti. There is also great variety in that relatively small area - we saw all of the Big 5 in a 6 day stay, in addition to all... More

The roads in the paek are maintained by the park and are much better than the roads to the Mara which are maintained by the Government. The Mara is the best place in Kenya to see the big five. Depending on time of year there is usually plenty to see. There are also many types of birds to see. Photography... More

Viewing the animals in their native land where they are free to roam and live as nature intended is just fascinating beyond words. The rugged and rolling landscape will provide many great pictures. We visited in May which is purportedly the worst month to take a photo safari in Kenya but we had great weather (except for one afternoon we... More

We saw every animal, it was almost like we were in a movie. It was the raining season but that was only in the middle of the night and I think it kept the animals around because they did not have to migrate for water funny enough.

We spent 5 days at the Mara Serena Safari Lodge in March 2012. One day, our fabulous game driver, Paul, drove us out to one of the bomas, or villages, of the Maasai people for a tour. It was about a 1-hr drive from the lodge. The rough roads made the journey slow, and required a sturdy 4-wheel drive vehicle.... More

I recently visited Kenya in March 2012 with my family and friends and we took a 10 Days safari starting with Amboseli and finishing with Masai Mara and I must say this is a must go destination. I would highly recommend Accord African Safaris-info@accordafricansafaris.com who organized the Tour for us.At first I was hesitant to go on safari but Catherine... More
