The Temple of Heaven and it's surrounding gardens is well worth a visit, particularly in the early morning. At this time it is full of local people engaging in Tai Chi, dancing, music and singing. It helps to give you a feel of how the people of Beijing like to start and continue their days ,particularly with the informal gatherings... more

Temple of Heaven is a MUST see while in Beijing. Take subway line 5 to Tiantan Dongmen Station and take exit A. The East Gate entrance is right there. It is 15RMB to get into the park and 20RMB to see the Temple of Heaven. I wasn’t able to buy the “through ticket”, although it wasn’t a problem buying the... more

Avoid weekends - it gets VERY busy - the chinese love to vsit their temples. In the winter it is extremely cold. Take plenty of time to visit the Temple of Heaven - there is a lot to see. more

We visited the Temple of Heaven after lunch in September, at about 2:00 PM. It was not crowded, though there were some people - almost exclusively Chinese. We didn't go early to see the people practicing Tai Chi and the martial arts early in the morning, but after hearing about it from our tour guide I wished we had. This... more

If I only had time for the Temple of Heaven or the Summer Palace I'd go to the Summer Palace, but the Temple of Heaven is very nice, and I had time for both. Lovely parkland and beautiful historic buildings. The electronic audio guide was OK, but one of the descriptions went off in completely the wrong place - it... more

The park is easy to navigate. But the main buildings only allow you to enter once, so plan your route. There are shops, but didn't see any restaurants. Wait for the free periodic commentary provided, or get a guide, or read up before you come, or the buildings will be quite meaningless. more

OK, so I guess Tiantan park is sort of like the Vatican of China. I dig that, but the real charm of this park is the thousands of Chinese people who gather there on Sunday morning to do everything from tai chi to sing folk songs to waltz. Get there about 7:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning and you'll see... more

Absolutely beautiful. Amazing colors & architecture. Make sure to visit the North building which houses the museum, and spend about 20 minutes. Our tour only allowed 15 min for the whole Temple area, not nearly enough. The adjoining park, Peoples Park, is filled in the morning with retired Beijing residents where you can see all sorts of Tai Chi, some... more
