Take the metro to Yonghegong. Regardless of what the signs say, take exit C and turn left. The entrance to the Lama Temple is ahead on your right and is 25 RMB. If you have the time, a visit here to see a genuine Buddhist temple is definitely worth your time. There are multiple statues of the Buddha and people are burning incense and praying. It is both different and yet similar to our western religions and really was of interest, even to my teenagers. more
Lama Temple (Yonghegong) is a delightful temple complex that is large and fun to explore. At least on the day that I went, it was not overrun with tourists--in fact, prostrating practitioners and monks probably approached the number of tourists.
