Located only 200m from the subway station (use exit C), this makes it a good and interesting place to visit. The site interesting, offers several sights and is good for a couple of hours. It is still used as a place of worship, so expect to see many monks walkinh and working. The entrance fee is 25rmb, imo ok. What... More

Many people come to the temple for worship. Nothing very exciting if you come only to see without praying. It may not be your priority place to visit, unless you intend to worship or you have an excellent guide to explain the architecture, the history and the meaning behind the statues. Not advisable for asthmatics, the air is densely filled... More

The Lama Temple was maybe the most traditional part of Beijing we saw in our trip. It was one of the few temple where we saw people doing rituals to the Buddhas there. The place is beautiful: you go through different buildings with statues that becomes bigger and bigger, until you arrive to the last one with a 16 m... More

One of the largest temples in Beijing, and important during the Qing Dynasty, but now an empty shell

I visited with a Beijing resident on 21st April. Maybe this was some special day, because he commented that he had never see Yonghe Gong so crowded, with crowds of young women offering joss sticks. The 25yuan entry ticket comes with a micro-CD about the temple. Beautiful buildings, well worth a visit.

Compared to some of the other major sights in Beijing, the Lama Temple is small. You can cover this within half a day. The highlight is a 26 meter tall statue of Buddha, which at one time was in the guinnes book of records. If you have children with you then don't miss the opportunity to ring the bell near... More

Well, most temples look pretty much the same. But if you are to visit one, this is a very good choice. Wonderfully kept buildings, good displays and explanations, plus it is a very active temple, and not only a tourist site!

As mentioned before, the Lama Temple has its own subway stop on Line 2, so it is very easy to access. If you have little time in Beijing this temple is easy to fit into your schedule. Admission is very reasonable. It is beautiful, like most of the temples around Beijing. The gigantic Buddah is quite a site. We were... More
