We took our driver's suggestion to change from Badaling to Mutianyu Great Wall. Less people, less sellers on the wall, I presume, but have to walk more. But we made it. We went up by cable car. My old mum was in jubilant mood when we eventually reach the tobaggan terminal, after some 8 towers in between, some uphill, some... more

Follow the advice here my wife and I visited The Great wall at Mutianyu in 2006 and it was a wonderful experience. We got a hire car for the day outside our hotel (550rmb) and visited the Wall, the Ming Tombs and the spirit way. It was a wonderful day. I am about to return to Beijing with friends, a... more

We took a tour to the Mutianyu part of the Great Wall, it was spectacular! This is not visited as much as some of the other areas of The Great Wall; which was wonderful. We cold take lots of pictures without so many other people being in the shots. It was beautiful, picturesque and not crowded. A bit of a... more

Today is our 3rd day in Beijing and we've thoroughly enjoyed it after visiting the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. My husband and I were hesitant at first thinking Badaling was more convenient but we decided to try Mutianyu after reading all the positive comments here. It really is brilliant. I visited the Badaling section a few years ago... more

Wow! Our day at the Great Wall was amazing! We were so much in disbelief of our location and the beauty that surrounded us! This was a great spot on the wall - hardly any people! We took the chairlift up to the area - Tower 14. Then we walked to Tower 20....lots of stairs going from tower 19-20..... I... more

We visited the Great Wall at Mutianyu. We had an excellent day, with warm sunny weather. We had booked John’s services several months ago, and he collected us as promised at 8am sharp from the hotel, we had asked the hotel concierge to call John the day before as we had had a last minute change of hotel. John was... more

I am writing a short review confirming what has already been written. This was the only part of the Great Wall we visited and it was both strenuous and amazing. I thought I would return another day for the more challenging hike between Jinshanling and Simatai. But if you follow directions given below (and that of others), this was plenty... more

Following a Trip Advisor recommendation we asked our guide to take us to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Whilst there are still tourist traps, the wall was relatively empty with only an occasional bottleneck at particular scenic places. The steps are worn in some areas and you need good footwear. I particularly enjoyed the descent by toboggan which rounded off... more

I was there in April last year. I agree with the other reviewers that this section of the Great Wall is a must-visit! Especially if you love history, since it's rather unspoiled and less "touristy" than Badaling. I actually drove there from Beijing with a Chinese friend of mine, so I can't give advice on transportation or tours. It took... more
