On our first visit we took the free 90 minute English language tour (available on weekends). Our guide enriched our experience by his enthusiasm and knowledge. We returned later that same day because we wanted to visit some of the exhibit again, but found that a third trip was necessary to take in all of the movies (either in English... more

This is one of the best museums I have ever visited. Come here for the remarkable range of historical and cultural information covered, for the outstanding presentation of exhibits and accompanying explanations, for the extraordinary intelligence that has gone into crafting an easy-flowing learning experience for you. I spent substantial parts of 2 days here (until my old legs gave... more

Yes - it's everything the other TA reviewers have said - stunningly good! We were there when there was also a "100 years of China" exhibition, so allow another hour for that - the old news bulletins on crackly old cinefilm and the many information panels with copious pictures were fascinating. It reminded me how terrible my modern history was... more

We ended up with a free half day to fill in that just happened to be a Wednesday when entry is free! Covers the details and history of Hong Kong, including archeological finds. If you decide to visit the museum make sure you leave around three hours free. more

This is one of the best and most thorough museums I've been to - the exhibits are facinating and spectacular (inc life-sized houses, boats and fesitival sculptures) and the place is huge! more

This is an excellent museum. Make sure to see it in order because they arranged it in order from prehistoric times in the actual formation of the island, to the historic dynasties, to modern times covering Japanese occupation of Hong Kong during WWII, to the television revolution in the 70's, and finally to modern Hong Kong. You will learn many... more

If you have 3 hours to spare, this is a very educational place to visit. You will learn about the history of HK from some 300m years ago until today. A lot of the materials also apply to the mainland Chinese culture, which is an added bonus. Highly recommended. more

I would never have imagined that the government of Hong Kong could create an awe-inspiring museum such as this. It covers everything from archeology, anthropology, architecture, sociology, popular culture to animal and plant life! They have real artifacts from centuries and millenniums past, life-size mock stores and houses from decades ago, even a retired tram that you can walk in,... more

The Hong Kong Museum of History is excellent. It’s a huge museum, and gives a ‘timeline’ of Hong Kong, through various tableaux, exhibits, recreations and films. I think it would appeal to all ages, and English was used everywhere. It was astonishingly cheap to enter (HK$10), and we spent almost three hours there. It would have been longer, but it... more

This museum takes you for a walk through time. It starts at the very beginning when Hakka settlers from China came to Hong Kong on their live-aborad Junk boats. As you walk through the museum, there are various movie rooms, displays and recreations of old pawn shops or post offices which were typical in the colonial days. There are also... more
