Giant buddha is a spectacular site in itself but access via cable car from Tung Chung makes it even more worthwhile. On a clear day, views from cable car are first class. Po Lin Monastery is quaint but a lot of shops around are very touristy. Meal in monastery refectory is very cheap, wholesome but will be far more than... more

Took the cable car last year and enjoyed the ride with great views but should have stayed on and not got off at the top. It just blows you away when you first see it. We took the ferry from Hong Kong Island to Lantau and then the bus up to the monastery. Be prepared for climbing... more

A fair way to spend half a day, a trip out to Lantua and the Po Lin was interesting and enjoyable. We took the ferry out from HK island, and had a very enjoyable walk back down through the woods to Tung Chung to get the MTR back into Kowloon. An easy route to follow with great views, it takes... more
