Lantau is a little bit far from Kowloon but it's just a train ride away. The entrance fee is not so expensive and is totally worth it. I enjoyed the 25-minute cable car ride, taking pictures of the Big Buddha from afar with a magnificent view of the sea and mountains. We enjoyed the sights when we got there. We... more

Nobody really rides the cable car just for the sake of riding the cable car, so I'm not sure why this merits a separate attraction from Big Buddha and the Monastery. However, it is an effective and enjoyable way to make your way up the mountains of Lantau Island to see the Giant Buddha and the Monastery. At the top... more

I had a beautiful clear day to go to the Big Buddha on Lantau Island. Very easy to get to on the MTR and went in a crystal cabin - which was clear bottomed gondola! The Buddha was amazing and the meal at the temple was OK! TIP ... take an umbrella for shade! more

I was tossing up whether to go right up until my last day in HK, as I'd heard that one of the cable cars fell of the rail a while ago! I finally decided to go and was relieved (for once!) to see lots of people queued up to get on! The ride turned out to not be scary at... more

The next day took us out to Lantau Island, near the airport where the tallest outdoor Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha) in China sits on a hill. As much as we enjoyed the destination, it was a day to enjoy the journey. After another trip on the MTR (to the Tung Chung station, exit B), we connected to the Ngong Ping... more

Fortunately we had a beautiful clear day and lovely weather when we rode the Ngong Ping Cable Car in May. The cable car ride represents good value for money as it is a 25 minute ride to Ngong Ping Village and the scenery is magnificent. You get great views of Lantau Island and the airport; as well as lots of... more

We stayed in Hong Kong and got the MTR to Lantau Island. We paid around £9 per person for the cable car ride to the Big Budda and Monastery in Lantau and were amazed. The cable car ride is exhilarating and not for the faint hearted as it climbs over mountains and the sea! We didn't take the new crystal... more

From the airport, I just ask the MTR customer service what the best ride going to Tung Chung MTR station, she told me to take the S1 bus (around HK$ 4 each). We bought a tourist day pass for MTR (it has 1 day unlimited ride using MTR), so we get 10% at Ngong Ping cable car tickets. You could... more

We went to Ngong Ping via bus ride from Mui Wo. Boy, I felt dizzy with the winding road. Ngong Ping village is a quiet place though packed with tourists. When we went there, it was unfortunate that the cable cars were under maintenance. The village is typical chinese. My son enjoyed banging on the drums. We did not watched... more
