We did this cycle route from Imabari to Onomichi. We had pre-booked our bikes but there seemed to be plenty of bikes at Imabari so that may not be necessary. The Shimanami Expressway is a series of ten bridges and roads crossing the inland sea from Onomichi to Imabari. As well as catering for cars there is a designated cycle path along the whole route. I chose to cycle the whole route which is 70kms long.
