Thanks to Tripadvisor reviews, its World Heritage status, and the Natural World Wonders competition (in which this Underground River is nominated for the most beautiful 8 natural micracles in the world), we went to this place (and skipped El Nido, due to lack of time). However, it was a big disappointment. The trip from Puerto Princesa (by jeepney; three hours... more

you start the trip arriving in a city fresh and very clean..puerto princesa..the center of the last frontier..enjoy the fresh markets with a special honey that is colored green.. its worth a stay in the small city to sample the many eateries..and rest before the underground river trip..that starts on a small boat to the small resorts that join the... more

So the Underground River is interesting, but getting there and away was far more special and memorable. Riding on the roof of a jeepney through twisting jungle roads reinforces how remote Palawan is. But then you pass a clearing with a basketball hoop nailed to a palm tree and are reminded not many places are truly remote these days. But... more

The way to Sabang (where the underground river is) is a tour in itself, giving you a scenic view of Palawan countryside. I can think of so many words to describe the underground river - amazing, magnificent, wonderful, marvelous - truly a gift from God! You have to see this for yourself. After the underground river experience, I then realized... more

Its definitely a different experience. A unique world, that very few people see. And its worth the long 2 hour road trip to get ther and another 2 hours back. The road is 90% fixed, so its not as bad as it was before. Lunch is provided, and is very good. You'll spend some time in Sabang beach, so might... more

Voted and in semi-finalist as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. We were there in June, 2009. Most of the roads are now paved and they have concreted the dock, so that it is no longer muddy. The city is also putting in paved parking lots as I write this, and should be completed soon. There is... more

How we got there: We flew from Manila to Puerto Princesa, Palawan. It's an hour flight, and several airlines fly this route. During the summer, there are about 7 daily flights, but fewer flights during the rainy season. From Puerto Princesa, travelers can either join a tour group (1500 pesos/head) or rent their own shuttle (recommended for large groups, 3500/van)... more

Those of us who have been to Disneyland in its various locations know how long the wait can be. While I visited the underground river on a so-called 'lean season' September Saturday, the tour guide's insistence on going back from our hotel to pick up a further two passengers for our minibus 'cost' our group a nominal 35 minutes which... more

Cleo Canoy Page/Florida, USA I was in Dos Palmas Resort last Feb 19-21, 2008. One of the excursion I took was the Subterranean River. This is a MUST to see if you go to Palawan. This place is so unique even Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, USA can not compare to this. The only regret was I run out of... more

I would suggest that you take one of the package tours that are readily available through flyers at the Puerto Princesa Airport....in my case, we took Ellen's Travel & Tours....hotel pick up is around 7:00am and it's about 2.5 hours drive from Puerto Princesa to Sabang....half of the travel time is on good road conditions...the rest is an adventure ride!... more
