It was a pretty interesting program getting to know Pablo Neruda's home in Santiago. La Chascona was a surprise to us. Everything is well conserved and the guides know everything about Neruda. Don't miss it!

Pablo Neruda’s house can be a little hard to find if you, like us, enter from the back street! See my photos for the street landmarks to look out for. To enter the house, you must pay for a guided tour and we felt that it was well worth it as we gained so much information from our guide. We... More

Go. You have to make an appointment for an English tour, but you can usually just show up right as it opens and get one for later that day (we did). It teaches you so much about Neruda, but also about Chilean history and politics. Plus the house itself is full of priceless art and whimsical design.

You don't need a great deal of time to fit this into your trip, but it is well worth it simply for the unique architecture of the home. No photography allowed inside the home.

It also hosts poetry readings and many other cultural activities, and is managed by the Pablo Neruda Foundation.

There's really not much to do in Santiago, so everyone should make time to see La Chascona. You'll be in Barrio Bellavista anyways and this stop fits in nicely after a hike up Cerro San Cristobal, since it's right at the base of hill. Tours are in Spanish and English and you'll learn a ton not just about Pablo, but... More
