Having read a decent write up in the Lonely Planet (which has once again proved to be nearly useless, but that’s another story!) we were looking forward to visiting the Visual Arts museum. Having now been I would recommend avoiding it. 2 scantily populated tiny floors of what can only be described as utter rubbish plus one room with some... More

Great shows of current Chilean and foreign artists. Interesting neighbourhood and good restaurants nearby, also Museo de Bellas Artes for historic Chilean painting.

This is enclosed a new very good building, which according to my guide book was the museum of pre-columbian art, which it was not! There was a single room of pre-columbian pottery. The remaining rooms contained modern art much of which I found uninteresting, although there were some very good and huge felt pictures by a German Artist on the... More

For the art lovers this should be a definitiv stop, but for those only slightly interested and with a limited amount if time in the city, I would prioritise other attractions. The museum itself is quite large with a wide assortment of artist from mostly Latin America. The art is quite diverse and interesting as well and as I had... More

It has a modern and contemporary art collection of chilean artists. Cool paintings by Matta and a moving social critque in cardboard sculptures of Vicuña. Also, some bizarre art like in any modern/contemporary museum but still very fancy and interesting.

The Museo de Artes Visuales is a privately funded gallery showcasing modern art. It also has a small, but excellent, display of pre-columbian artefacts in an area by itself upstairs. The design of the building is on several levels and very modern. Natural and artificial light have been used to show off the works at their best. It has been... More
