The Mariscal district has improved immensely over the years, and is now much cleaner and safer than in the past. The immediate area around Plaza Foch, the epicenter or the district, is buzzing with activity - packed with restaurants, bars and discotheques. On the weekend it is very busy, with tourists rubbing elbows the Quito's teens and 20 somethings. The... More

The Mariscal District used to be nearly crime free but immigration policy changes in 2008 (no visas required) saw an influx of people who gravitated to the area for its tourist population and the petty crime problem exploded. I will not go there at night anymore. It's generally safe during the day and there's a lot to do and see... More

Five years ago this was a nice place to walk around and have lunch in a weekday, with several tour operators offices, restaurants, cafes, etc. But I feel that now this is an unsafe place, many travel agencies had moved, and there are only two or three busy spots that are nearly fun and safe. This district is in my... More

Mariscal is the center of Quito's thriving daytime sidewalk/plaza cafe experience, as well as ground zero for it's nightlife. This area provides the viistor with a wide variety of shops, boutiques and restaurants to satisfy any food craving. Add in the numerous bars with music & sports programming displayed on large flatscreen TVs everywhere, Nightclubs/Discos with music for every taste... More

This is the area of Quito nicknamed 'Gringolandia', where the nightlife is aimed at tourists meaning crowded pubs/clubs, bright neon signs, blasting music etc. To be honest that's not really my thing, it seemed like any other city centre on a Friday/Saturday night, with people staggering about drunk and pickpockets/muggers thinking it's Christmas. I did have a few good nights... More

Excellent places to go out for a drink, coffee, libraries, shops, BUT security is the problem sometimes in more isolated streets, avoid them and try to walk in the busy ones only.

Some cleverly designed restaurants and modern open air spaces, good mix of foods. Good places to grab a coffee, and Magic Bean has killer breakfasts. Plenty of places to drink, but poor as a place to meet ecuas. Bad things happen at night, more likely the later is gets. The cops are useless, and there is an experienced core of... More

We have stayed in the Mariscal District several times over the past five years and it is one of our favorites. Shops, restaurants, hotels, and lots of activity. It is safe though you still must take care. Explore the streets and the old architecture still sitting between the new buildings. There are so many options that will keep you busy... More

if you want a night for partying or a launch off point for any kind of adventure-Mariscal needs to be your first stop. Be careful- some shady characters have made the scene recently but with a group of friends you'll be safe. Watch out for unmarked taxis at night. During the day it is completely safe- a lot of fun... Dirty and very dangerous at night. It's not known as Gringolandia for nothing. There are a couple of good museums and stores but go during the day.
