After this, we’ll head to the Old-Town; our first stop is the Basilica, an impressive Gothic style temple, where we’ll also appreciate the 2 other viewpoints of the downtown; from here, our tour will continue on foot. We’ll make an easy down-hill walk through Garcia Moreno Street (a.k.a. the Seven crosses street), up to the Plaza Grande and the surrounding buildings (the Presidential and Archbishop's Palaces, the City-hall and the Cathedral) Then, we’ll continue to visit the Jesuits’ church ("La Campania de Jesus"), a beautiful temple built early in the 17th century (entrance not included) « less

Ecuador has everything you want in one small country. From jungle, beach, city, and even snow cold mountains. My trip to Quito Ecuador is a must see. I went to Galapagos ( don't forget under water camera), montanita (beach), Quito (capital), and to Tena (Jungle). Its very cheap to get around, the bus is only 25 cents and cabs (taxis)... More

Despite Quito having a stereotype as dangerous, I never encountered any problems the two times that I visited the city. Perhaps speaking Spanish might help, but you can generally get by with English.

Highly recommended, start from a visit at the Basilica and take Garcia Moreno street down to Plaza de la Independencia, visit Carondelet Palace, Cathedral, continue to the amazing Compania Church and then towards San Francisco plaza, have a coffee there and enjoy the beautiful architecture of the best preserved Historic District in Latin America. Also possible to go at night... More

Stay in Old Town! It is beautiful with gorgeous churches within walking distance. If you are there on a Monday morning, you can see the changing of the guards ceremony at the Presidential Palace at 11 am every week! It was very cool!

A friend and I recently went to the Galapagos and spent 3 nights in Quito. A local tour company, Explorandes, led us on excellent private tours of Quito and Otovalo Market. Our guide, Roberto, went above-and-beyond in showing us lots of little extras to make sure we got the true flavor of the local culture. We planned the Galapagos trip... More

Invest in a guide otherwise you may not know what you are seeing. We learned the hard way. The young boys shining shoes was too hard to pass up, .50 and they do a good job.
