I went to Peru in Sept, 2007. It was a truly memorable experience. The seafood in Lima was the best seafood I've ever had. I also strongly recommend the Lake Titicaca - the floating islands made by the totora reeds. Imagine taking the boat also made by totora reeds and the local people singing songs from the floating islands to... more

After visiting Macchu Picchu, Lake Titicaca was my favourite destination on my tour of Peru. We stayed for two nights in Puno. We were on a organized tour with a company called Enjoy Peru (a great company). Puno was just a town. They had some nice markets though and I loved how so many of the women still dressed in... more

If you don´t like manufactued tourism give the Lake Titicaca tour a miss and skip over the border to the Isla del Sol in Bolivia. It´s much nicer. If you don´t take it too seriously it is fun, but a bit over the top. FYI Juliaca: Closet airport to the lake. A revolting town. Don´t even think of staying here!... more

We arrived in Puno after a long slow ride on the train. We were greeted with a light show from a thunderstorm over the mountains. The view on the train can be a little disorienting since you leave Cusco and the mountains and then climb UP to the plains surrounding the lake district. After checking into our hotel we certainly... more

Excellant place to visit, we took a two day tour of the lake and spent the night on one of the islands. Incredible views and a lot of fun to get to know the different cultures of the islands. As a warning to other travelers we booked our tour of the lake through a company called Jumbo Travel, they assured... more

Definitely NOT much worth seeing here. The "Floating Islands" of the Urucos are a complete fraud - they are built on solid ground that is just 2 feet below the lake level. Puno has nothing worth seeing, and is generally unattractive. Juliaca, with the nearest airport and the only way to the Lake from Peru, is EXTREMELY UGLY! The main... more

Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world, at a height of about 3,500 meters, and lies between Peru and Bolivia, Peru owning about sixty percent and Bolivia about forty percent. The amazing thing about the lake is not only is it an incredibly beautiful location to visit, what with dazzling snowy Andean peaks on the shores, but... more

We ventured onto Lake Titicaca from Puno for 2 days and one night. On the way out you travel through a whole lot of green sludge. But once out on the lake it is very pretty. We visited Taquile Island where we learnt a lot about the local culture. In the distance we could see Bolivia. We stayed overnight at... more

Lake Titicaca is the highest navitigable lake in the world, it's also a way to get to Boliva from Peru, it wasn't possible at the time I went. I spent 3 days there - it's a bit too much, you do the island tour and see the indians the live on the reed islands, etc., but it does come off... more
