With all of the above the Mirador is worth a visit, stop for lunch in one of the restaurants, visit the church, enjoy the view and perhaps buy some local handicrafts. Well worth an afternoon visit.

We were unfortunate to get there on a smoggy day, so we did not see the whole beauty of it's panoramic view But street walking in area right across the square made up for it:) Very beautiful, lots places to take picktures by, definitely worth the trip!
El Mirador de Yanahuara - the lookout of "the people who wear black shorts" was a great place to see Arequipa and el Misti the volcano which dominates the city (as a geologist I was impressed). Here too is the church of of Archangel Michael and its beautiful facade. Travel on the green tourist bus to get a good view...

It is really nice to walk through the side streets and wander up until you end up at the mirador. There are pretty and calm little streets all around.
This small village is close to the downtown is a very, very nice town and a mix between the native and spanish architecture; made mainly by white rocks from the volcanus "Misti" lava; around there there are a lot of friendly ,good tipycal restaurant of arequpa's food
The arches in Yanahuara plaza are a great place to capture sillar architecture with El Misti' in the background. The plaza is a relaxing place where you can sit in the shade of palm trees and eat ice cream that is sold by the vendors on every corner.
Take a taxi from Arequipa centre ! (not a tour bus!!) It costs only 5 soles and you can spend time you like in Yanahuara. Take a seat on the main Plaza, speak with people. Sunday morning the church is open. And for every place in Arequipa you want to visit....take a taxi / ask for the price and you...
