At almost any hotel, you can book a tour which takes you to a couple of sites in Cusco as well as the four sets of ruins outside the city. Sacsayhuaman is one of them. We came by later in the afternoon (near 5:30). The ruins were almost deserted. My husband and I eventually made it to Sacsayhuaman after a horseback tour gone wrong. By the time we got there we were exhausted so we possibly weren't as impressed as we should have been. We probably should have gotten a guide since much of the sprawling site seems rather unplanned without someone to guide you through what it once... more

The last review is way off. Sure it seems like an incomplete set of rocks because it is 75% destroyed by the Spaniards and Cusco government. For hundreds of years they stole rocks from this fortress to build Cusco. Although it is the top Sun Temple where Inti Raymi is performed, it is really built like a heavy fortress. It... more

Compared to Machu Picchu, Sacsayhuaman (pronounced unusually like sexy woman) seems like a pile of rocks and much more of a tourist trap. It's definitely worth seeing because it is huge, but I couldn't really see that it was supposed to be a puma.
