My trekking partner and I, my good friend Jeff Lien, took a shot at bypassing Machu Picchu. Looking for something different and more worthy of actually hiking in the Andes we set our sights on Choquequirao. A no nonsense trek to an amazing historical Incan site without the huckster t-shirt fella or the demand for money after a photo with... More

Booked this tour with Bioandean expeditions at calle Suecia in Cusco and this was the coolest thing I had done around Cusco. Everything was really well arranged and Bioandean expeditions did everything they could to make sure the trip was well worth it. Private transportation, good cook/guide, good tents/sleeping bags helped make this trip an unforgettable memory of my time... More

This site is located at 4 days hiking from Cusco and cannot be reached by vehicle. The site was never discovered by the Spanish and is almost as extensive as Machu Picchu. The number of visitors is much lower making the experience all the more interesting. The hike is quite though especially day 2 and day 4. In general it... More

A demanding but worthwhile trek to an Inca site that is exceeded only by Machu Picchu. Not fully excavated but the terraces are amazing. I completed a 5 day trek starting from Cusco and returning there. Sungate Tours were responsible for an excellent trip. They supplied a first class, infromative guide, excellent meals and great suppport service. Would definitley recommend... More

Our family of 7 did this 5 day hike to Choquequirao with ERICXPEDITIONS. Erick is a very fun and excellent english speaking guide who knows the history of the area. Our trip included 3 meals a day made by an excellent chef who even made birthday cake with carmel drizzled on it. The evenings were spent in the main tent... More

This was an amazing trek with an amazing guide and crew. InkaNatura surpassed my expectations and I admire the company for what they are trying to do along the trails in Peru - being socially conscious of the impact of tourism. This was a challenging trek but what an experience going from remote farms to bustling villages in the Andes... More

We prefer to trek at our own pace, be in charge of our own schedule, therefore we have decided to undertake this trek independently and to organize an mule driver for the Choquiquerao trek instead of engaging an agency. There is an organization of the Mule drivers in Cachora, the starting point of the trek. They can help organize the... More

A friend and I were in Peru mid-May of 2011. We were excited to have planned an alternative trek to Choquequirao. We did not have any prior personal references for choosing a tour operator, and had to rely on internet research to make a decision. It's a confusing choice, with many operators competing for business, many of them presenting similar... More

It's a 52km trek, I took the decision of doing it in just 3 days... wrong decision cause I ended it so exahusted, but great view, great ruins at the top of the mountain.

I went on the five day, four night trek in late November 2010. It was a knee-crunching trek both up and down to Choquequirao. We saw at most 10 other trekkers and only two others at the site. Fernando our cook was fantastic and the meals were great. I made my reservation through the hotel since the price was right.... More
