This is a rough area of town... trash scattered everywhere... I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Lima... EXCEPT for Callao.
Cute beach town with very colorful houses. Nice local businesses and restaurants line the coast. There is a promenade along the coast. Cold to visit any time but summer.
Callao is all airport and port, the tourism is not working as the traficc is too dense, area too dangerous to strall without being afraid of being robbed
Nothing about Callao is nice. Maybe by the water, but be very very careful! It is a terribly dangererous town! Stay out if possible! I would and I live here in Peru..
Real Felipe fort's interesting and the immediate area around is nice to walk around, but large parts of Callao are a bit rundown and there's not really much else to see.
