Downtown Lima is bizarre. If you are brave enough to get away from the two primary plazas you will see an incredible world frozen in time. Small shops and strange vendors sell nearly anything you could ever want. China town and the pet market are particularly cool. Don't wander around at night.

A nice historic square with lovely old buildings and great picture spots. It is not really necessary to visit this place as part of a tour, even though it does make things easier. It is not a place you MUST visit, but if you do have the time it is worth taking a detour for.
