La Rambla is one of the very first things that I discovered during my first trip to Montevideo in July 1991, when I rented a car (the only time I rented a car in more than 20 years I’ve been returning there) and drove all the way to Plaza Independencia. Then, I followed the traffic flow and went down to... More

I had a day in Montevideo in February, 2012 on a cruise. Fortunately I had a guide waiting for me at the port. He took us all over the city, We saw the cathedral, the town hall, the Teatro Solis and the Plaza Independencia. He introduced us to the very friendly people, all of whom share their Mate Jar with... When arriving at the port in Montevideo, I suggest you take a quick look around the port area, and then walk down the peatonel of Perez Castallano until you come to Calle Sarandi. From here you can walk three blocks down to the Rumbla and the pier, where you can get a great perspective of the city and the Port... More

The city dominates the largely rural country, with some 1.8 million inhabitants. But sandwiched between Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Buenos Aires, Argentina, this city and surrounding area is perhaps overlooked by travelers planning... More

being on a cruise and coming out to pay less than $4/ min to call the US, and $50/ hour for internet was a pleasure and refreshing experience, since other cruise ports did not have this luxury, the town is clean and beautiful

When in Montevideo, Uruguay arriving at the port, take a free shuttle with the leather factory to the central plaza. At the plaza, go to the Radisson Hotel, take elevator to the top floor restaurant. There you will have a panoramic view of Montevideo from the restaurant windows. Then sit down for a good coffee, tea, snack or meal. They... More

we spent christmas day with Michelle for a Jewish Heritage tour. The cruise ship cancelled this tour because of the Christmas day holiday so we found Michelle on Tripadvisor and tours by locals. She was just amazing! She knew everthing there was to know about jewish history in Montevideo and showed us all of the relevant sites, both open and... More
