We live in Istanbul so I wanted to see this mosque as it is one of the early works of the architect (Sinan) . Looks like it has been extensively renovated inside - new tiles etc but still lovely.

This was my first visit to a Mosque so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was helped into the appropriate green hooded cloak which the women wear and ushered inside. Quite beautiful. I sat quietly until prayers were about to begin.

If you come in Sofia - this can not plug it into your program. No big deal! The only mosque in Sofia. Through the years has been - prison, library and other. Is currently surrounded by beam construction of the new metro. In Sofia and Bulgaria other places that definitely worth it, but not this!

I have seen it from outside but tomorrow (friday noon time which is special time to prey for muslim community) I wiil go inside.

Not much to see there, at least from the outside. However, note the very close location of a church, a mosque and a synagogue at the very center of Sofia.

Beautifully designed, placed between a church and a synagogue.

A simple and pleasing mosque built to a Sinan blueprint. But don't believe the story that Sinan, the Ottoman Empire's greatest architect, was born in Shiroka Luka in Bulgaria. It isn't true.
