We hiked and visited the castle - my boys (ages 9, 5, 4 and 2) had a great time! The trails are well marked, but steep and very natural...so maybe not for the timid beginner. Totally doable...some woman in her 70s passed us! That's all we did on this visit but it was a great way to spend the day.

I was lucky to have access to the TV tower at the top of Sljeme....but even from lower levels, the view of Zagreb is wonderful.

The air is clean, the temperature always lower than in the city. I recommend getting to 'Sestine' by bus going from 'Britanski Trg' and then taking a nice 90 minute hike to 'Graficar'. You'll get a nice workout, and when you finally make it to mountain hut Graficar you can eat some very cheap and amazingly tasty traditional cousine.

I'd recommend any visitor to come to the mountain above Zagreb for its uncountable attractions. Whether you like nature, sports, outdoors, medieval ruins, geology, speleology, domestic tastes offered in mountain lodges. Even ski and sleigh rides...
