This huge,palatial aer museum has splendid collections of Italian paintings(Domenico Veneziano up to Pannini),German paintimgs(South Tyrol Master up to Johan Tischbein),Flemish paintings(including Jan Van Hemessen,Teniers the Younger,Rubens)Spanish paintings(including El Greco,Zurbaran,Alonso Canp),Dutch Master paintings(from Pieter Aertsen up to Rembrandt and His Workshop,Ludolf Bakhuysen),and French Impressiomist paintings(Monet,Pissarro,Sisley).This art museum emphasizes the Old Masters and this museum has good lighting and things are... more

While visiting Bucharest for New Year 07/08 we took in a quick visit to the fine arts museum opposite the Athenaeum. It looked closed from the outside but the staff were welcoming and friendly. The regular exhibits of European art are fairly limited and not particularly impressive. The building, a former royal palace, is not in any way notable. However... more
