I have very mixed feelings about this school because I pretty much learned all of my Spanish here (having started out with an understanding of the language) yet, on reflection, I felt I'd have been better off elsewhere. Not that the school is bad at all- it is decent value for the budget student and the building and learning environment... More

I felt I got a lot out of my teacher at the Academy. She had a plan with long and short term goals and listened to what I wanted to focus on. But even better were my children's teachers. My 8 and 11 year olds were happy to go to class every day. The teachers treated them like their own... More

I spent nearly 2 months by myself volunteering and studying Spanish in Antigua, and spent all 2 months studying at Academia Colonial. I studied in Antigua a few years before at another school, which was fine, but not as comprehensive as my experience this go around. Classes are private 1:1 and are held on a gorgeous terrace overlooking a classic... More

The director of the school didn't speak enough english to explain things to students and so she had another student doing it. My teacher seemed more interested in impressing me than teaching me and he was rude when I got things wrong. I was lectured about things I hadn't learned, but expected to get right. He asked some really inappropriate... More

I found Academia Colonial to be VERY accommodating. We came and left on weird days, but they were fine with that. It took us a day or two to get the right amount of cash to pay for school, but they were fine with that, too. We studied so many hours that they had to work in two different instructors... More

Prior to going to Antigua, I spent one month studying Spanish in Xela (Quetzaltenango) in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. My school in Xela was highly rated, however it was not nearly as comfortable as Academia Colonial in Antigua. In Xela the chairs and desks were kind of dilapidated, the school was inner-city with lots of noise from traffic, the... More

I studied for two weeks over the summer. Ana Diaz, who manages the school, thoughtfully placed me with a great teacher, Ingrid. She and I enjoyed typical lessons in the beautiful school setting, as well adventuring out into Antigua, Guatemala City & San Antonio Agua Caliente for hands on learning lessons. I would highly recommend this friendly, flexible, and accommodating... More

I studied here for just over 4 weeks in July/August 2010. My teacher Soledad was very patient, but also kept pushing me to learn more. Unlike other schools (where people are couped up in small areas), Academia Colonial took advantage of the climate by using the terraces and open spaces within their massive colonial complex. Ana, the lady who runs... More

I liked going to Academia Colonial. Classes were always held outdoors, all the better to enjoy the climate in Antigua. Lessons were structured to fit my level, and I had a good professor in Pedro. They assigned me to live with a nice family, and it made my stay very pleasant. I would like to go back again. - martin
