We visit city forts/walls all over the place, and this is one of my top experiences. With the mountains and ocean below, it's just incredible. Paths are mostly maintained, but rugged enough that you feel you are on an adventure. We went at around 5pm (open til 8pm) and the light was great. Be sure to crawl out the hole... More

We experienced this hike last September while on a cruise. We found our way to the entrance of the steps, paid our fee on where on our way. The temperature that day was around 30 C and did not take long to feel it. The steps are crumbling in places, and care should be taken when passing other people going in... More

Great views - definitely worth the energy expended to get to the top. The fortress at the top is a little disappointing, but the views are amazing. Be sure to go through the walls to see the little church on the other side and come down along the amazing windy road to the north gate.

I agree with the previous reviews. There are amazing views but they are just as good from half way up as they are from the top. It is a hard climb and the ground is very uneven with crumbling steps, so appropriate footwear is advisable as is a bottle of water.

Even as a 17 y/o I found it a long & steep hike up but it was well worth it when I got to the top, just a shame it was a grey old day.

It's a steep climb and descent requiring a reasonable level of fitness and probably difficult for those with weak knees, but the views from the top make it worthwhile. I'd say this is a must-do for Kotor. Although I saw a number of folks walk up in sandals (even heels! - albeit only half-way), I'd still recommend sneakers or similar.... More

Bring a snack pack, or perhaps even a lunch, or maybe some wine and cheeses. Climb up to the fort, which will take you 30-60 minutes, find a nice spot overlooking the bay, and spend hours enjoying the spectacular views of the Bay of Kotor. Outside of the tourist season, there is no charge for climbing the walls. Inside of... More

Lovely walk! We did this off season, so we did not pay although no issues paying 3 euro for this wonderful walk. Takes about an hour and it is amazing. I'm not that fit, but I manged to all the way up to the fort with a few breaks in between. One regret is not packing a nice picnic for... More

Very nice thing to do when on vacation in Kotor bay. Probably takes 1 ½ -2 hours to climb all the way and the scenery is fantastic. There is a church half way and our 4 and 6 year old walked this far. My wife and I then took turns walking to the top and back. Do not forget to... More

For 3 euros, get some exercise and a gorgeous view of Kotor Bay. I did the hike in flip-flops with no problems, because there is a stone staircase all the way. Hike officially closes at 8pm, but there will still people hiking up there later than that. Path is dimly lit after dark though, so you'll need a flashlight if... More
