I thought the catacombs were going to be pretty mediocre, since I didn't see myself enjoying what I anticipated would be a relatively small underground tomb with only a couple rooms. But I was actually quite impressed and enjoyed the catacombs a good deal. I would certainly recommend them to anyone who is in Alexandria for a couple days. more

The tourist police will search your bag and if you have a camera they will insist you leave it at the ticket office. Camera flash will gradually destroy the wall paintings. Please be a responsible tourist and DON"T try to smuggle your camera in. You can buy photos/postcards of the catacombs at gift shops. more

We left Cairo and went on a day trip to Alexandria where we saw Danial mosque, Roman amphitheatre, Fort Quaitby, Amud el sawari (Pompei’s Pillar), the catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, the English tour at the Alexandrina Bibliotheca and then ended off with Montazah Palace Gardens. Would've liked to have gone to the Greco-Roman museum, but it was closed for... more
