We spent a fantastic afternoon at Living Land discovering the 14 different steps in planting, cultivating, harvesting, processing, cooking and finally eating rice. We also met the men and women involved in the smooth running of the farm; this included basket weaving, hat-making, black-smithing and roof making. It's a hands-on experience which leaves you breathless, both in terms of the... More

What a treat! We spent the morning learning how to grow rice, from ploughing the paddy - driving a buffalo knee deep in mud to harvest and threshing. Everything is hands on and each guest gets to a turn. This is an excellent venture with the proceeds go to the local community to support and educate its members. The guides... More

A wonderful hands-on experience to understand the entire life cycle of rice harvests in Laos. The company brings you through all the traditional steps from seed selection to harvesting. They provide information on how rice used to be harvested and what tools and techniques are mostly used today. My husband and I did a half-day rice experience and we truly... More

It's rare to get a truly inspirational experience - but Living Land is one. We met members of the community who started out life as poor Hmong villagers with slash and burn agricultural practices, no education and no way out of their existence. Through the help of the Living Land community (and the temples), they have been educated in the... More

Having spent about 5 months in Asia already, this is honestly one of our favorite things we have done! We did the "rice experience" trip run by The Living Land Company. The people who run this trip are some of the most friendly, interesting and passionate people we have met in S.E Asia, and we were honestly sad to have... More

My son and myself loved it. The Local Guide which make you go through 14 steps on how to grow rice is excellent!!!!! It was very interesting without being too touristy at all. Learn quite a lot and in a smart way! It is a MUST!

This farm is small but interesting, growing organic vegetables and rice to supply to restaurants in town (Delilah's, Blue Lagoon, etc). We hadn't booked the rice experience tour, but decided to stop by the farm while we were going around on our scooter, and the farm manager kindly offered to show us around the place. Fun stop, and we really... More

Bored of endless temples? Want to meet the real people of Laos? Ever wondered how rice is grown? Want to drive a water buffalo called Susan?! Then I can't recommend The Rice Experience enough. It is a great initiative set up by a philanthropic half Swiss, half English chap called Mark to help local people. The Living Land Farm is... More

I've always wondered how rice was grown and exactly how it goes from the stalk to eatable rice. This tour went through all of the steps from start to finish. Some of the highlights: Pickup and Drop off at our hostel Learn about the tools used as well as how they are made. Actual blacksmith making tools so you can... More
