We climbed the hill in the hottest season, so it was a challenge to say the least. I actually appreciated the workout because it was something different to do after climbing in and out of the tuktuk day after day to look at the temples. While the reliefs are rather small and the waterfall piddly, it's something to see because... More

The stone carvings in this riverbed are lovely. We also enjoyed the walk (3 km, or approx. 2 miles, with a slight elevation gain) to the site. We like to hike, and found the walk relatively easy, although some of the other visitors seemed to find it challenging.

This is a great spot to hike and is a very nice contrast to the temples. The carvings were very interesting. I saw people hiking barefoot or in heels or flip-flops but I recommend sneakers. The tuk tuk ride here was a little bumpy and our driver was not thrilled to make the trip but I felt it was worth... More

You climb the hill in humid conditions for around 40 minutes to see very little, was fun watching the Cambodian kids playing under the waterfall, but would rather have spent the day doing something else.

My husband and I are not huge fans of structures/buildings/carvings but love hiking/walking so this was a good balance of activities for us. The walk is around 1.5k each way and is quite pretty - lots of curled roots clinging to rocks. Better to wear trainers or sandles with ankle straps rather than flip flops. When you reach the destination... More

Its a 2 km hike over tree roots and bolders to get to the river carvings and water fall, went in march but still enough water for a small water fall.Combine it with a tuk tuk trip day trip $15 to land mine museum , butterfly museum and Banteay Srei.

Cost us $15 more tuk tuk fare for this out of the way location. Not worth the 1 hour climb up to see only a few simple carvings. Save your energy and precious time for other easily accessible temples or carvings. Overrated.

Kbal spean is the location where the water runs down from the mountain and eventually to the temples. They have carve giant lingums and images of Buddha in the stream to bless the water . There are several large carvings then downstream there is more and a beautifull waterfall you can walk right upto(slippy though). It's located about an hour from... More

They call it a waterfall but its far from that. Atleast when we visited in March. Probably better in the cooler months. Do take water along if you go. Almost fell from dehydration. The climb takes about an hour each way. Probably worth going if you have done all the temples.

After visiting Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Banteay Srey, Bayon and Beng Melea my friend and guide Savuth mentioned Kbal Spean. Just as well. I decided spontaneously to pay a visit. It is a beautiful ride in the tuk Tuk to Kbal Spean. The ruins in Kbal spean is right on top of the hill and a climb of 1500 meters!... More
