Yes, the scenery is lovely, but it is so, so much better down near Yangshou. The boat trip (even if you pay extra for 'luxury') is on one of those hideous dining boats that someone's parents hire for end of school dance - or even more sadly, for weddings. This is a "must" see! Leaving the dock, about 15 boats (doubledeck) meandering slowly in the shallow channels and seeing the wonders of nature transform before you eyes is "magnifico!" The Li river tour boat is very comfortable and in its 2 1/2 hour trip to downstream town, you will see various wonderful landscapes.
