We visited the Suzhou No.1 Silk Mill on a tour a few weeks ago. It was extremely interesting to see the silk making process. We purchased a quilt and duvet which we took with us. Our son and his future wife love it!!!! Upon our return to the States we realized we had not received the "free gift" with purchase.... more

I had the chance to visit a silk factory both in Suzhou and in Beijing and this one is definitely the most interesting. The actual production line showing how the thread is pulled from the steamed cocoon is really interesting (and cannot be seen in Beijing). It is fascinating to know when and how was silk discovered though... Read it... more

Yes it is interesting and worth a visit. The canteen or restaurant is very busy and buffet style. The food was okay and plenty of it. Prices well yes it did seem expensive by Chinese standards, still cheap by Euorpean prices, but you knew that the goods are genuine silk and you can pay by card. A big advantage is... more

Surprisingly interesting to see how the silk is pulled off the cocoons and spun into thread. The automatic looms are always fun to watch. The shop is very overpriced - double what the starting prices are on Guan Qian Jie in the city center. more
