Entry 70Y to visit the massive temple/monastery complex, one of the biggest in China. The area around the Temple has been done up to be a fake old town. Not very nice. Temple worth a visit if youhave time: most people zip through Datong to see the Caves & the Hanging Temple. ---

It is a nice temple but only few things are really old. The whole site is completely renovated and only two halls are more or less original (but not everything inside). Most of the buildings on the site are new and did not even exist in older times so makes the whole visit a bit disappointing.

Shanxi is a rewarding part of China to visit if you have a taste for atmospheric old Chinese temples. This one, with a hall dating back to the 12th century, ought to be one of the best.
