The park / base was nice and peaceful. But the Xiongmao (panda) Road leading to it was packed with all kinds of heavy trucks, buses, cars, scooters.. Out taxi moved 500 meters within an hour. In the end, we decided to walk the rest of the 2km. I hope Chengdu government can do something with the traffic, after all, the... more

In terms of seeing Giant Pandas, from new born cubs in incubators right up to adults, this place is first rate. We ended up going on two separate days - this is partly because, as other reviews have already said, the period between 8am to 10am is really the main window of activity and interest (and also before the thousands... more

We went to The Giant Panda Breeding Research Base due to previous reviews and were not disappointed. We went early and the panda's were very active and maybe because it was a bit cooler stayed active throughout the morning. It is quiet first thing which makes the experience all the better. There is a lot to see from the baby's... more

The Panda base is the one must-see attraction in Chengdu. There doesn't seem to be a lot of reason to go to the further panda bases, when you can see up to 80 pandas here, hold baby pandas to get your photo taken with them, learn all about the pandas, etc. It costs 58 RMB for admission (about $8.50), and... more

Visiting the pandas was definitley one of the highlights on our trip in China. We had to get to the centre pretty early as this is the best time to go as this is when the pandas are most active and when they feed them. First we saw the young adult pandas feeding and then we were lucky that there... more

That's their aim as they moved towards more development. A visit to their toilet convinced me they will reach there soon. The facilities in it is better than or comparable to that at Narita airport, Japan. That's a very high commendation. There were two places, one at the entrance and another inside a cafe near the swan lake, where video... more

An amazing experience!!! I held a 7mth old panda named Song Qin. She was sooooo cuddly and such a delight. The whole Panda Base is lovely to walk around and learn about the pandas, see the different aged pandas and be amazed by the fantastic research the centre is doing into breeding these beautiful creatures. It cost 1000 yuan to... more

Ok its a little cynical but so far not one bred Panda has been placed back in the wild and all the time the " breeding research" goes on, the prime problem, the destruction of the natural habitat goes on and on.. As is usual in China ask the guide any awkward question and they simply go silent or answer... more

I went to Chengdu for 3 days a week ago (April 2009), and even though Chengdu city is nothing too special, I had a great break thanks to our visits (2 consecutive mornings) to the Base. I had been dreaming of going to a panda base in Sichuan to see cubs playing since I fell in love with Tai Shan... more
