Even if you speak Spanish, some of the descriptions on the items are think on details. A lot of the items on display say "This item was not used in Cartagena". So it's a museum about the Inquisition, but its items seem to be imported. Confusing. Maybe I should've hired the guide who was hanging out in the museum lobby.... More

Our tour started at the ship and we had the same tour guides throughout. When we got off the bus, we walked through the city for a few blocks and then came to the 'Plaza Bolivar'. We met up with our English speaking tour guide and went through the gates into the Palacio de la Inquisicion. The building has been... More

there really isn't much within the museum apart from a few torture instruments, a guillotine in the courtyard and a small gallery of paintings upstairs. If you don't speak spanish, there is very little english translation in this place. The building itself is a nice representation of the time, but that's about it.

In retrospect, we probably should have hired an English language guide to take us through this building. The exhibits had very little in the way of English-language descriptions and the guide sheet given to us was of little help. On the positive side, the building is magnificent, and so even without knowing what all of the exhibits contained, we enjoyed... More

OK, so I'm biased. I went to the Palacio, knowing the name, and did it without thinking. The display of instruments of torture was significant. I was both a bit fascinated and thoroughly repulsed. The thought of the torture inflicted by these instruments was disturbing. However, they were a part of history and displayed well. Some areas of the museum... More

I walked into this place with an interest in learning more about how the Spanish Inquisition went down in the Americas, but I was in for a surprise. Not only was the architecture fascinating and beautiful in this building, but also there was a bonus art exhibit on the top floor -a good one too. Heads up -make sure you... More

A great place to learn about the intertwined religious and racial histories of Cartagena de las Indias. The Inquisition displays are best paired with the Museo Historico de Cartagena exhibits on the history of the city in the rooms of the top floor. Ticket price includes admission for both - general admission is 15,000 COP, students 10,000 COP. The bottom... More

This is a great place to take a break from the heat and learn a bit about Colombian history. The exhibits are interesting, and informative. If you speak a little Spanish, you don't need the guide.

Interesting torture devices, revolting, actually, and jails. The sentencing took place in public. Used by the priests to "force" people to accept their faith. My husband was interested in the metal work of the devices. If you have never seen a torture chamber it's worth a visit . Horrible what people do to one another in the name of God!

Since this is the place where people were slowly and painfully tortured, I found it rather creepy, especially since I went there on a beautiful, warm sunny day. Almost all of the information is in Spanish and it was difficult to plow through it with my limited knowledge of the language.
