This is the larger of the two temples at Abu Simbel. Both are great.

We visited this following a cruise on Lake Nasser - The cruise finished at Abu Simbel – approaching these from the lake gives a true impression of just how impressive these would have been some 4,000+ plus years ago – emphasising the message from Ramses of just how great he was and in total control of the area!

Go there by bus in the convoy escorted by the police at 4:30am. Go to Nefertari's temple first and then Ramses second after the crowd has cleared and gone to the cafe to buy some outrageously expensive drinks. Take a pillow on the bus with you and lots of water and some food. You will spend about 7 hours on... More

One of the two highlights of Abu Simbel with immense size and spectacular details in side. The other highlight is Nefertari's Temple.

This is the most magnificent site you will see in Egypt. Do NOT under any circumstances miss this site. Do not leave Egypt until you have walked inside this Temple. Incredible. Incredible. Incredible. Stay overnight at a hotel here and see it at dawn. Unforgettable.

We entered the site at 8:30 am this past January and we were the only people on site for about an hour! Beautiful in the morning, best time to come and see the two temples. The location is not easy to get to but worth the time. We used Globus and spent 4 days on Lake Nasser, great way to... More

We wondered if it was worth the trek from Aswan! Don't be in any doubt - the temple is a truly staggering achievement from its ancient construction to its modern relocation. A wonderful, spiritual sight to behold.
