My friend and I spent about 4 hours in this national park. What an amazing place! We arrived in the mid-afternoon and went into the visitors' center and gift shops. In the vistors' center, we watched the 17-minute movie, which detailed the history of the park. I thought the movie was very informative and visual. We rented sleds at one... More

We were traveling with a one yr old so visited about two hours before the sunset. This place is gorgeous! It is about an 8 mile loop so you can drive through the whole thing to pick a spot that works for you. We wanted to take pictures of the sunset so we picked a spot that was facing sacramento... More

We loved White Sands National Monument, but our water wasn't as cold as I like it, it was actually hot. So, next time I am going to freeze the bottle of water and as you walk around, it will melt and be very refreshing and cold. I was taking a picture of a bushs' shadow and I spotted a white... More

After driving an unbelievably long straight road my kids began to lose hope that we would ever arrive anywhere. Then suddenly, there it was! I knew sunset or sunrise was the best time to be there and we got in just before sunset. The park ranger lady was helpful on telling us where to go so we found a high... More

So white it looks like snow, but children were still able to have fun sliding down the dunes. Interesting board walk and picnic area with dozens of shaded tables with BBQ grills available. This unique beauty spot was well worth a couple of hours driving around.

You can see White Sands National Monument well before you even get to Alamogordo. As you are driving out of the mountains to the East, you suddenly see a long strip of bright white sand on the horizon. Once you get to the National Monument, the outer dunes are mostly covered with plants and shrubs, but the further you drive... More

White Sands National Monument is awesome! First, stop by the visitor center to learn why and how all the sand got white and what animal footprints you will see out in the dunes. 2nd, swing by the gift shop if you didn't bring a sledding saucer. They have great tips on how to sled on the dunes. Finally, hit the... More

My wife and i really enjoyed our auto tour around the stunning white gypsum dunes. At first you are on the tarmacked road with the dunes pilled high around either side of you. You then drive off road on the sand which is great fun, normal cars are still ok. Great visitor centre with lots of info and gifts. A... More

The visitor center is a must for first time visitors. There is a 15 min video that explains the origin of this wonderful site and helps you comprehend the natural phenomena that you are witnessing. The gypsum dunes, whether spotted with desert flora or alone in their snow white beauty, are spectacular! People drive through, hike, and saucer down the... More
