At the Sun Temple at Modhera, the walls are exquisitely carved with bands of sculpture which depict iconographic forms of various deities, dancing figures, rows of elephants and processions of people in different attitudes. Time has weathered the carving. The Sun Temple is about 90 minutes drive from Dasada. It's worth seeing this site with an Indian Government accredited tour... More

It is approx 3 hours drive from Ahmadabad via town of Mehasana. Roads are fine. Comparatively smaller in size to other (Konark) sun temples of India. Temple is surrounded by lawns. First comes Surya Kund (Tank), then Sabha mandap and 3rd structure is main temple. Tank is beautiful but the upper dome of mandap and temple are broken. The carving... More

I lived in Ahmedabad for a long time and this is by no means my first visit to Modhera. The Sun Temple at Modhera is a great ancient temple to the Sun god. The kund outside the temple, the rang mandap and the sanctum sanctorum, together make a superb monument to spent a couple of hours at. The pillars and walls are decorated with excellent sculptures in sandstone. A must visit if you are anywhere near Ahmedabad.
