Quiet, serene, away from the main road bustle of Dal lake houseboats. Surely the place to stay, but then you MUST have a vehicle at your disposal at all times. Mornings & evenings are absolutely serene, perfect place to be romantic or relax.
The Nageen Lake is absolutely beautiful. Take a shikara ride on the lake and admire to views. Houseboats line the lake which is filled with life. You could enjoy a full day on the shikara take a pinic
It is a little far from the rest of the town which makes it very calm and quiet place. However, you will always find shikaras floating around with local people pushing you to look at there shawls etc. so avoid them as much as you can.
Great views, beautiful lake, birdlife and fishing. Also there are trade boats that come along with goods to sell, fruit and vegetables, apper mache figurines and boxes, wool products and also fine jewellery.
from all the reviews read by us b4 going to kashmir, we had decided to stay at nagin lake instead of dal lake. the good thing we did was not book houseboat in advance, and thank God! when we went for booking, we found out that the lake is away from the main city, is very small with limited houseboats...

Sunrise scenes were marvellous, enjoyedbirrd chirping n playing ducks.serene n peaceful environs..
Apparently there are only about 200 houseboats on Nagin, compared with 800-1000 houseboats on Dal. Nagin Lake is also exceptionally clean - I believe it is used as a fresh water source for Sringar city. The main shikara dock is very close to the University of Kashmir campus.
if your looking for real beauty and extreme peaceful atmosphere... Nagin lake is the place to be !! its not crowded read claustrophobic like dal lake ... its scenic and extremely calm !! also its much much more clean as compared to Dal Lake and not too many shikaras or houseboats around so gives a beautiful feel of the place.
Usually Dal lake is flooded with tourists. So take your shikara ride in Nagin Lake and you will enjoy the Ride. Please bargain for the shikara and don't pay the actual amount which he asks you. Also it is like the Venice boat. If you are a Family take multiple shikara so that you will enjoy the same.
