The early morning boat ride was refreshing. We were lucky to see elephants. The snake birds, Cormorands and King fishers added to the morning beauty.

There are 2 windows for the 2 organizations running the boats (KTDC and Periyar Tiger Reserve). Try to get the tickets for KTDC since their boat is much better and the staff seemed more professional. The boat ride is worth it just for the setting - and early morning you can see bison, plenty of birds, and wild pig. Elephants if you are lucky. Tip - get the hotel to get your tickets in advance - we got ours and also assigned seats #s 1 and 2 in the front on the upper deck.

Very calm and tranquil lake with dense forests on both sides makes for a perfect getaway. The boat does make a lot of noise, but other than that, once feels with nature. Morning curises are enjoyable, because they are when the sun is still not out
