Elephants have roamed our forests but due to the greed of man they are chased away .to forests. The GOI had protected elephants in reserve forests and in wild life sanctuary . Periar WLS is populated with herds of elephants and it is a great joy to see the elephant herds crossing the periar lake from one hillock to another.....

The reserve is very picturesque and to visit there it would be necessary to take part at least in one of its many programs. Don't worry about your physical form because this programs are calculated on very unsportsmanlike people. we loved the bamboo rafting trip. the scenery was lovely and we saw lots of animals (no tigers or elephants though). The guides were great but the food could have been better.
It's very bad organised. It's very expensive according what you get. You pay an entrance fee for nothing, then you have to pay extra money to go trekking, boat trip or safari.
All the agencies offer the same, they are not reliable. They just want to finish the tour as soon as they can.

Yes.. this sanctuary is really well organised.. they have various jungle safari programs... Including tiger trail(1 or 2 days trekking in forest), Jungle Scout (Night trekking), Jeep Safari, Elephant Safari, Nature walk, Green walk, Bullock Cart ride, Bamboo rafting and boat ride. Forest department take all security measures for the tourists in all above programs.
