Great, chilled out beach. The sea can get quite rough at certain times of the month, the lifegaurds there are really on it, not sure if any of them could actually save a life (!) but they're really onto the safety side of things and get people out of the water if it's getting really rough. definitely one of the cleanest beaches and holiday areas we visited in southern india - add to that the cliff top accom and dining and this is probably one of the best areas to stay in and relax for a few days. handy to trivundrum airport for domestic and international flights.

One of my favourite beaches in India. I love Goa beaches, and have been there 10 times...but the cliff, the rocky edges and the beautiful and sometimes enormous waves of Varkala beach, will make me return to Varkala pretty soon!
