but not well maintained. the grounds on the outside of the palace reeked of urine and it was muddy all over. when it rained the water gutters simply poured the water directly onto ppl down below. no posters/information boards nor are there 'guides' available..some of the relics in outer rooms were covered in dust and clearly have been neglected. it... 75% of this palace has been destroyed ... so after 15min, we had seen it all. you can tell they made effort to restor it, they repaited it, so it looks nice and clean. But I wasn't breath taken anyway. I got empressed by how high the ceilling was, but that's pretty much it. The most annoying part was all... More

If you're in Madurai you might be tempted to overlook the Thirumalai nayakar mahal as it's so close to the much larger and world famous meenakshi temple. This would be a mistake. Whilst not on the same scale as it's illustrious neighbour it is still nevertheless a great sight in its own right. It doesn't look much from the outside... More

Interesting history, but quite underwhelmed by the experience. Pigeon poop everywhere, dusty, poorly curated. Glad I went, though, so that they could hopefully fix it up a bit more.

The place is just a big courtyard with thick plain white pillars on raise walkways on sides. There is one throne on the raised platform in the far end of the premises, which seems to be the place where king use to sit for audience with his people. You can see one big chair (Supposedly kings throne) but it is... More

The palace is beautiful but very small. Apparently only 1/4 of the palace exists today. There is a light and sound show in the evening which starts after 6 but the palace museum closes by 5:30. The place is good visit for an hour in the evening.

After Sri Meenakshi, the palace remains are kind of a let down. They are newer and really mostly of "foreign" influence. However, the two big remaining buildings are very impressive... no matter where they would be. It is in a so-so state of repair. They were redoing the exterior gardens when I was there, it will be a vast improvement... More
