I've travelled to over 50 countries, but everytime I'm in Akko, which is 45 minutes from my house, I'm again reminded how wonderful the town is. It has great old buildings, a wonderful mosque, daily market, good restaurants, the sea and sea wall, crusader walls and tunnels.... If only they would clean the place up, and invest a bit more.

As a teenager, I used to sail from the old city of Acco. I recall it looking like a dirty old Middle Eastern city, as if you stepped into the third world. Since then a lot has changed, with formerly dirty squares full of donkey dung have been cleaned and now have coffee and other shops. New boutique hotels have... More

We didn't feel very comfortable since there were no police officers anywhere, and you can see the locals (arabs) tore hebrew explanation plaques off.. Otherwise it is quite an experience!

Tunnels narrow so not for the claustraphobic but do if you can. Only excavated recently but in marvellous condition. Our guide had to translate into Italian and English so perhaps slightly rushed so try for tour in your language only.

Walking around the old city felt like stepping back in time. Seeing the tunnels and the mosques were amazing. The prison was a very sad but interesting place to be, by seeing all of the Tzahal cells.

Well, I really enjoyed Acre. While the actual tourist, advertised stuff will only last you about 3 to 4 hours on the standard combo ticket, it's a good bit of information to absorb and see. The basic combo ticket, available at the visitor center, gives you access to the Citidal, a small art museum, the Crusader tunnel, and the Treasures... More

Easy to see all in 2 days. Real place not just a tourist stop.

I visited Akko on a long day trip in March, 2012. I had cheap accomodations in Jerusalem so I didn't want to stay overnight. I took a bus from the Central Bus Station about 8 am and was in Tel Aviv by about 8.50. Intercity bus travel in Israel seems to be comfortable, affordable, and punctual. I walked across the... More

The only interesting thing was the tunnel. The only beautiful place was the garden in front of Citadel entrance. Terrible city. Poor navigation. Not worth visiting.
