If you have only one day, go to Ngorogoro. Tarangire is fine for elephants, giraffes, zebra and if you are really lucky tree-climbing lions. But I preferred the space of Ngorogoro, enclosed as it is by a circle of mountains, and the opportunity to see rhinos as well.

Great game drives and beautiful scenery. Watch out for the teetse flies.

Tarangire National Park is a great place to see elephants and giraffe. You will not see the lions and big cats but the bird life is worth the visit. Take time to get a good guide as they will point out things that are often missed. It's well worth the expense.
