Lovely place to get away from the heat of the valley. Fantastic views from Irenete view point. Wish I had my mountain bike here as would be fantastic cycling country

My wife and I spent 5 days in the Usambara Mountains with a local guide named Said Salim. He operated Usambara Adventures (www.UsambaraAdventures.com) and we are beyond impressed with everything about our trip. We spent a total of 14 days in Tanzania and Said arranged all our transportation, lodging, meals, park fees on Safari, etc, etc. The highlight of our... More

We did a three day walking tour with Friends of Usambara which was great. The scenery is spectacular and everyone we met was really friendly. It was a great way to see the place.

Our guide took us on a 15km hike (with many 'ups') and we were exhausted at the end but enjoyed it, nevertheless. We saw many chameleons and learnt about the local flora and fauna. The villages were interesting - and learning how the locals all had their own plot of land to grow stuff, to sell, eat or barter with.

We came to Lushoto wanting to get off the beaten track and enjoy something a bit different. Lushoto is a delightful small town in an exceptionally beautiful setting and is still mainly untouched by tourism. Up in the mountains it's good to get away from the searing heat and enjoy the cooler temperatures. There are a few small organisations running... More

This is a very scenic area with lots of nice walks and also very relaxing just to chill out for a few. days. The only drawback is the awful buses to get there - in a terrible state and totally overcrowded not to mention the terrible driving on the winding mountain roads.

Picking what to do in somewhere as rich as Tanzania was always going to be hard. To find such a gem by luck rather than any other means was extraordinary. The W Usambaras, between Dar Es Salaam and Moshi, have a reputation for beauty and a lovely insight into African life - villages of enthusiastic children fascinated by the presence... More

We spent 6 nights in the lovely Usambaras and soaked it up! Our days were spent relaxing, taking walks through the villages, going on a couple of organised hikes. For the organised hikes we recommend Friends of the Usambaras with an office in Lushoto town- our guide's name was Jackson and he was polite, kind, had good eyes for wildlife... More
