Magnificent scenery, winding (but smooth) roads through and over mountains, a fascinating and unique history. My favourite place in all of Thailand.

Seems difficult to reach but actually, it is quite well organised, even having to change bus/cars.
To arrive there, you really feel like leaving the world to reach some untouched place. Feels good.
Untill you reach the place... Mae Salong is only two things: tea shops and hotel/guesthouse. Nothing else.
Hopefully, few smiles gesture (no money) and you can get...

They say that life is about the journey, and going to Doi Mae Salong is no different. It's a windy, gravity-and-death-defying trip to get there along crazy mountain roads, with stunning views at every turn. Your reward for safely arriving is more stunning views, a charming town, markets, and amazing food!!! Just do it - you'll be so happy that...

It was very hot and sunny, and a woman wearing thick traditional clothes. I doubt she wears that everyday cos we didn't see others wore that kind of clothes. And we had to pay some money to take pictures with/of them.
Hired a car and drove up," stopped at a park with hot springs on the way which was really nice" it was interesting to see this piece of Chinese history transplanted in Thailand. You need a full day for this one!
Situated high in the mountains of Northern Thailand, Mae Salong is an amazing area. Stayed at a wonderful guest house and then visited the morning market before heading up the 718 steps to the Queen Mother's residence on the top of the hill. Once there, you could see forever. The view of the town below was beautiful. We visited the...

Visited here as we wanted a break from the city and would recommend it as was an interesting day. First stopped at Yao village which was small and as soon as we got out of the car all of the kids came running to us trying sell things. Very small and not much to see here - didn't really feel...

This small hilly town is totally different with others at Thailand. Few numbers of Akha ladies(one of tribes at north of Thailand, which origin from elevetion area near Burma) selling their wares. Actually this town is settle by Kuomintang fugitives who chased out from Burma, thus when you visit here, the feeling such like visit China Town or northen province...

Basically only hilltribe market and a little bit of tea planation. Considering the distance we have to travel to reach there, it is not worth a visit. Nothing extraordinary or spectacular view.
Maybe we went here at a bad time - it was the middle of "slash and burn" season, there were no views and there didn't seem much there. The lunch wasn't up to much and apart from the usual craft stalls there didn't seem to be much there. Combine it with a visit to the tea plantation (which was interesting)...
